Authentically TCS: Grant Polazzo

Have you noticed the signs around TCS campus, requesting donations for men’s clothing and shoes? TCS sixth grade student, Grant Polazzo, is the man behind the mission! This October, Grant made a visit to the Midtown Assistance Center (MAC) to find out how he could make a difference for those who are in need.

Grant explained that MAC’s mission is to provide emergency assistance to low income working Atlantans to help prevent homelessness and hunger during periods of crisis. “It’s important to help people who sometimes can’t help themselves,” says Grant, ruminating on his inspiration behind this project. During his October visit he learned the organization is in need of men’s professional attire, such as pants, belts, shoes, etc. to assist those in need of obtaining and retaining jobs in the Atlanta area.

Grant got to work obtaining and decorating barrels for donations. Not only has Grant placed his donation barrels on TCS campus, but he has persuaded his community to get involved as well by placing donation barrels in his own neighborhood. His goal is to fill the barrels, drop off the clothing, accessories, and shoes, and do it again!

Grant has always been inspired to help out his community. As young as six years old, he was planting trees in Candler Park for Trees Atlanta, a non-profit organization designed to protect and improve Atlanta’s urban forest. More recently he managed a lemonade stand in which he donated proceeds to help homeless veterans. “I feel like I’m making a difference. I feel like I’m accomplishing something by stepping up and doing it and the people who are donating are stepping up, too.”

We applaud Grant for the wonderful work he is doing within and for his community, and we admire him for his inspiring efforts!
