Hello, everyone, and happy summer! After nine years as a grateful parent at TCS, and many months of interviews and meetings this past year, I’m excited to reach out to you for the first time as the Assistant Head of School. I’ve been a part of the Atlanta independent school community for over two decades, and after the last fourteen enriching years at The Howard School, I’m thrilled to join this amazing community of learners. In my new role I will work with the leadership team and faculty to refine and promote our program, and with you in partnership on behalf of your children’s experience at TCS.
A few days ago, Rachel and I took our son Christopher, who is a rising TCS second grader, and Catherine, our recent TCS graduate, to sleep-away camp, which marks the first time Christopher will have been away from home for this long. I remember this rite of passage myself, at about Christopher’s age, but with one notable difference. During my childhood summers, school was a distant memory, happily forgotten, and the end of summer was deeply mourned by my friends and me. For my son, though, even as we enter July, he regularly laments that school is out, that he misses his teachers and classmates, and that he can’t wait for school to start again. I know many of you have similar stories, and I can’t begin to express my joy to join a group of professionals who inspire children to feel this way.
I have not yet met many of you, and while there are many of you whom I have come to know well over the last nine years, we will be together next year in a new context. There will be many opportunities for us to connect during the school year for you to share your thoughts and experiences, but if you find yourself near TCS over the summer, I invite you to drop in to chat. Just shoot me an email and let me know you are coming. I know I will be in all day on the dates below if it helps to have a target. I’m happy to meet any time. My door is always open.
