The Children’s Education Initiative (TCEI), a San Diego-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of education for socioeconomically disadvantaged children, has partnered with The Children’s School (TCS), an independent preschool through grade 8 school in Midtown Atlanta, through a $1.02 million multi-year grant to the school’s financial aid program. TCS is the first school in Atlanta to receive a grant from TCEI.
The grant will cover the costs associated with a TCS education for two students enrolling in kindergarten at the school for the first time during the 2025-26 school year, with additional funding for the school’s general financial aid program.
TCEI partners with schools who work to make an independent school education accessible to more families. TCEI selected TCS because of its commitment to a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture, which was a primary focus of the school’s recently completed strategic plan, as well as the school’s engaging, hands-on curriculum.
“TCS is dedicated to being a holistic and inclusive school that not only provides an academically challenging educational experience, but also instills the values of social justice, empathy and equity in its students and greater community,” said Head of School Roslyn Benjamin. “This grant from TCEI will not only help increase socioeconomic diversity at our school, but it will also help us to provide a sense of belonging for more children in Atlanta.”
The Children’s School’s financial aid program has helped increase the school’s socioeconomic diversity. For the current 2024-25 school year, 25% of TCS students receive more than $1.3 million in assistance.
“Since our founding in 1970, The Children’s School has remained steadfast in our dedication to providing an enriched academic experience embedded within a nurturing environment for all students, regardless of their socioeconomic status,” said Director of Enrollment Management Pauline Jennett. “Our partnership with TCEI will enable us to expand our engaging, play- and
project-based curriculum to even more Atlanta children.”
TCS is thrilled to partner with TCEI and deeply appreciates their generosity. This grant represents the start of a lasting partnership, reflecting the organizations’ shared dedication to socioeconomic diversity and to the impact of an independent, preschool through grade 8 school education in shaping the future contributions of young people to society.
