The Children’s School is proud to send its fifth phenomenal and sought-after class of graduates to high school. The Class of 2023 are attending a range of competitive private schools, with several taking advantage of excellent public school options.
Our 17 graduates were accepted to a wide range of Atlanta-area schools – performing arts, magnet, religious and non-religious, traditional and progressive. In fact, the 16 students who applied to independent schools received a total of 32 individual acceptances to 16 schools, with three of our 17 students committing to public school as their first choice!
We are excited to send students to their right-fit high schools at Dekalb School of the Arts, The Galloway School, Greater Atlanta Christian School, The Howard School, Midtown High School, Mount Vernon School, The New School, The Paideia School, Whitefield Academy, and Woodward Academy.
Our high school counseling process begins the summer before eighth grade and continues throughout the school year with regular, individual check-ins with families, and high school counseling lessons facilitated by me, the Upper School director of student life and high school counseling.
We offer an on-site SSAT workshop for eighth graders, and we host an SSAT administrator to help students feel well-prepared and comfortable when taking the test. Eighth grade teachers, literacy specialists, and other administrators play a critical role in supporting our students through the application process and essay writing.
Our team of Middle Grades teachers, specialist teachers, and sports coaches all dedicate time to advocating for each student’s best interests through letters of recommendation and evaluation forms. It truly takes a village, and the end result for this confident group of rising ninth graders speaks to the community investment in our graduates.
The Class of 2023 will be honored in a commencement ceremony on Thurs., May 25 that celebrates their move from TCS student to alum. We are so proud of the accomplishments of this class, and watched with joy as they navigated this admissions process with curiosity, introspection and tenacity.
The Class of 2023 embodies the best of TCS – their humor, passion for equity and justice, empathy and compassion has been cherished and will be missed. We could not be prouder of who they are and all that they have accomplished this year. They have left their mark on our community, and we are confident that they are well-prepared to blaze trails within their next communities.
