Sharon is our new school nurse! She’ll work in the infirmary to care for our children’s health and wellness needs.
What are you most excited about this year?
Joining The Children’s School as the first-ever school nurse is incredibly exciting in and of itself. I feel beyond privileged to be entrusted with, in part, the health and wellness of the TCS community. I am most excited to truly know every student and their unique health story. This is no small feat, but I am convinced that relationship is the best way to positively impact student health outcomes. Pediatric health education is my passion and I cannot wait to build lasting relationships with the beautiful community here.
When you’re not at school, where can we find you?
When I am not wearing my school nurse hat, I’m either serving in some capacity at my church, Christ the King, exploring our beautiful city on foot or by bike, or hosting friends at my home in Buckhead. People are my passion, so I’m more concerned with who I’m with than what I am doing or where I am. I love engaging with the Atlanta community, so I could be just about anywhere on any given weekend.
Where is your favorite vacation spot?
I’m so grateful my parents valued international travel. Because of them, I’ve explored, in part, 15 different countries. Right now, my favorite place in the world is Crete, Greece. Crete is the largest of the Grecian islands and is found perfectly centered in the Mediterranean Sea. And yes, it’s as beautiful as you’d imagine! Because you’re off the mainland, the island isn’t significantly affected by the economic or social unrest that all too often burdens the Grecian population. Envision serene, sparkling blue ocean water and an inviting rocky mountainside sprinkled with sheep and goats. The air is a rare combination of warm and moist, yet refreshingly clear. Crete is the birthplace of a lot of Greek mythology and it’s no surprise because the ambiance and ascetic inspire the imagination. I’ve visited this magical oasis twice already and cannot wait to return!
Which fictional character would you most like to meet?
There are so many angles I could approach this question from, but I’m sticking with my initial instinct. “Trust your gut” is good nurse advice, right? If I could meet a fictional character, I would meet Elizabeth Bennet from “Pride and Prejudice.” In addition to being a woman of marked conviction, Elizabeth Bennet possesses a distinct feminine ferocity. She is meek, yet powerful. Sensitive, yet strong. She passionately opposes injustice, but humbly admits her fault when her vigor misleads her and causes harm to others. Jane Austin successfully created a powerful female protagonist whose humanity is event and consequently extremely relatable. Jane was truly a woman ahead of her time!
