We’re introducing you to our TCS teachers! Click here to go to the TCS blog to see the other teachers we’ve profiled.
Today, we’re introducing you to Clarrissa Hulett, a third-grade teacher!
Clarrissa went back and got her master’s in teaching when her oldest daughter was starting middle school. It was then that she knew that she was ready to start her teaching career! She’s been teaching at TCS for almost six years.
What skills do you hope your students will learn by the time they leave your classroom?
I would take great joy in our students becoming active members of an authentic reading community. I collect children’s books and enjoy sharing my interests in literature with our students, and It is my hope that they find fulfillment in literature as well.
What about teaching makes you excited to come to school every day?
Third grade is a year where you can see a tremendous amount of growth from the beginning of the year to the end. To help guide our students through the process of somewhat dependence to independence is truly exciting.
If you could meet any fictional or historical figure, who would it be?
I don’t really think there is a particular person of the past that I would like to meet. I do like the person who quoted this: “Do not confine your children to your own learning, for they were born in another time.” (Chinese Proverb)
What is something none of your students know about you?
That I moved a lot when I was growing up. I actually went to 14 different schools before I graduated high school. I think that is what makes my time spent here at TCS watching the children grow and change so special.
