All three TCS Atlanta first grade classes today hosted an African Market to help raise money – and awareness – for water crises in Africa, Atlanta and Flint, MI. The kids made African art, jewelry and masks. They displayed everything throughout each of the classrooms, and they asked for donations to enter the market with all money going to help with the crises.
As part of their Water Crises project-based learning unit, the classes studied different types of water crises – an event which occurs when there aren’t enough water resources in an area – and how the crises have impacted Africa, Atlanta, and Flint, MI.
The kids worked in small groups to create posters with different ways to conserve water; raised money to help fund initiatives already in place to provide information and bottled water to Flint residents; and wrote a letter to President Trump explaining water crises and ways to help.
