When students come back to school on Aug. 16, they’ll notice a couple new faces in the sixth grade classroom. One of those faces belongs to Todd Wass!
About Todd
I am a coming to the TCS community with 13 years of independent school teaching experience in middle-level social studies. After finishing my master’s degree in social studies education at Georgia State University, I am currently pursing a doctorate in curriculum and instruction at GSU focusing on problem-based learning and design thinking. I am an avid outdoorsman who loves to hike, backpack, rock climb and sea kayak. I compete in various triathlon distances from sprint to Ironman. My wife, Yvonne, is an Atlanta attorney and my son, Dylan, was born earlier this year. I love listening to podcasts, playing Scrabble, cooking and spending time with my family.
What’s your favorite memory from your sixth grade year?
My favorite memory of sixth grade was from our field day. I remember participating in the softball throw, mile run, shuttle run and tug-of-war. While my team did not win, I remember placing first in several competitions. I was surprised at my own ability and that I could excel in athletics and academics.
What can TCS sixth graders expect to learn and do this year?
We will cover social studies content from world geography, ancient world history, world history, American history, economics, global issues, etc. More importantly, we will continue to hone our critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity skills throughout the year.
What are you most excited about this year?
Being part of such a great community. Additionally, I am excited to have the opportunity to work with the sixth grade team to create an awesome sixth grade experience.
What are your favorite pizza toppings?
Broccoli, garlic and sausage
