To say that our TCS students have big hearts is an understatement! Elizabeth Cohen, a student in Randy and Jocelyn’s fourth grade class is dedicated to spreading awareness and being a proactive member of Save the Rhino International.
Elizabeth’s fascination with rhinos began in kindergarten while studying animals, thus sparking her interest to independently research this particular species. Recognizing that rhinos were an endangered animal due to senseless slaughter for their valuable horns, she was determined to take a stand.
For the past four years, Elizabeth has been deeply involved in saving the rhinos from extinction. In addition to creating fundraisers to support campaigns such as “Help a Ranger, Save a Rhino”, she partnered with Zoo Atlanta to create an informational booth at Maker’s Faire. She also inspired her third grade class to participate in Rhino Art “Let Our Children’s Voices Be Heard”, a campaign aimed to support rhino conservation. Elizabeth even launched a letter writing campaign to thank Warren Buffett and other donors who have supported the rhino campaign. This past summer, she had the opportunity to travel overseas to meet with leaders from Save the Rhino International at their London headquarters!
Every year Atlanta InTown newspaper recognizes twenty students under the age of twenty (20 under 20), highlighting a select few who display outstanding volunteer and community service efforts. Elizabeth was one of the 20 under 20 students selected to share her story with the community this year– congratulations Elizabeth! Click here to check out her article!
Elizabeth maintains her own website, “Save the Rhinos, Atlanta” and we urge you to visit the site and click the “Like” button to help Elizabeth in her effort to save the rhinos! www.facebook.com/savetherhinosatlanta
